A nice cool Sunday Drive

Well, I haven't gotten any more random checks in the mail, so I figured I'd have to find another way to entertain myself today than spending suprise money on new toys. It's North Carolina, it's February 29th, so of course it's 65 degrees and sunny outside.

Motorcycle Day!

So I got the bike all in order from her long winters nap, fired her up, and she roared to life on the first start. Took a long 30 mile or so ride all along some backroads between my house and my office, and leisurely made my way home. The ride was nice, the bike felt great after a few minutes of warmup around the neighborhood, and the weather was nice enough that I only felt a slight chill on my face once the sun went down, shortly before I made it home. The weird thing was that once in a while, when I hit a strong gust of wind, things would get really breezy and chilly in a very sensitive spot. I got home, parked the bike, and of course realized I rode around catching the breeze with my fly open for 45 minutes.

Man, how cool am I?

This could be promising

So, my quote yesterday was "Oh well, I'll just wait for another check to show up in the mail".

Today, I received an award at work (for being the super-badass that I am), that resulted in me getting another check in the mail, this one capable of buying orders of magnitude more happiness than the measly $13.86 I got from the RIAA. So, onto the experiment...

Oh well, I'll just wait for another check to show up in the mail.

We'll see what happens tomorrow.

I love to say it...

I told you so. I got my check today from the greedy evil Big 5 record companies. Somehow that $13 doesn't seem like it will buy me all the happiness I was expecting. Oh well, I'll just wait for another check to show up in the mail.

Hell, I'm just amazed it took less than a year. Barely.

A gig of RAM costs what??

If my last post, and the fact that I'm typing this one on Saturday night (Valentine's day, no less) haven't made it obvious, I'm rapidly falling back into full-fledged computer super-geekdom. As this has transpired, I've realized that I'm long overdue for a PC upgrade, having assembled my last machine sometime in the 90's. Needless to say, it's really not cutting it anymore.

Thinking I didn't want to mess with the hassle of building a PC myself from a huge parts list, each decision carefully scrutinized, and the rock-bottom price found at the least shady internet retailer I could find, my search took me to Dell. I did some configuring of boxes, and pretty much came out with 'what I need', at just north of $1500, which is what I was using as my target price point.

Of course, this exercise in sanity was short lived, and I went back to my old process of procuring a PC, which is to order everything on it's own, and put the whole thing together myself.

How do the two processes compare? Glad you asked....

Stinking Amazon

So I got a few books as Christmas/birthday gifts, then a I ordered a few more, all from amazon. Three weeks later, I get on O'Reilly catalog in the mail. Now, I love O'Reilly and all, but who told those jokers at amazon they could give out my address? That really chaps my ass...

Worst...blog...ever

Yeah, yeah, I know. A post every 6 months does not a blog make. I'm a busy guy, deal with it, and I'll try to be better. Forlorn my ass.

So, what's been up for the last six months?

  • Dre got married, we all got drunk
  • Gnubbs got married, we all got drunk
  • Omar got married, we all got drunk
  • Spent two weeks at home with the Family for the holidays, didn't get drunk
  • I had another birthday
  • Went to Cincinati for New Years with J$, didn't get drunk. Just kidding, of course we got drunk.
  • And ummm...I worked. A lot. Without drinking.
  • I read a lot of books, and generally stayed away from computers in the few spare hours I got away from work. Recently, I've given up that luxury, so I figured I mught as well start blogging again.

Should be fun.
