So, I finally wrapped up the categories and the archive/recent duality thing with some php and MT Templating. I can add a category, get a "recent entries" view and an "archive" view, all without any modification to any templates, it's just all automagic. Hooray for me.
That finished, I added a links file to include around the site, and then began to implement a google search button. It was at this point I had a revalation:
A google search on my page does nothing for anyone.
Google is pervasive, it's the web site that is just always there. I can search from my links bar without hitting google. Millions use the google toolbar and require zero clicks to get to a search input box. So I decided that adding the net's bazillionth google search box was redundant and a waste ot time. Plus it's late and I'm tired.
One final note, if you go to the preferences page off of google, you can check a box to open all results in a new window. I have no idea how long that's been there, but I'm ashamed I didn't find it sooner. Now I almost don't have a reason to despise Windows mouse drivers for not mapping the middle button to "Open in a new Window". Almost.
So, I'm looking around for more stuff to do, in an attempt to avoid the ugly realization that I can't possibly regurgitate enough information to make an interesting blog. Not seeing much. Might just start throwing crap up now. We'll see, I can always come up with a reason to procrastinate. It's a gift.
